Amazing Arunachal, the 'Land of the Dawn-lit-Mountains is glorious perched at the top of North-Eastern India, crowning the other sister like a protective helmet. This largest and remotest North-eastern State is first area to greet the golden sun rays into our country It shares a long international border with China in the North and the North-east, while to West is Bhutan and to its East is Myanmar Towards the Southern ends of the States of Assam and Nagaland. There are over twenty six major tribe and a number of sub-tribes flourishing in the State with their distinct identities, culture and customs. In fact, the people of Arunachal are the greatest attraction of this beautiful land.
According to mythological legends, this is the land where, Lord Parashurama washed away his sins, sage Vyasa meditated, King Bhishmaka founded h kingdom and Lord Krishna married Rukmini, who belonged to Bhishma Nagar. The modern history dates back to the advent of the British power the region, as the Burmese handed over Assam to the British after the treat of Yandaboo on 24th February, 1826. Before 1962, it was known as the North East Frontier Agency (NEFA) and was part of Assam. It attained the Statehood on 20th Feb. 1987 and became the 24th State of the India Union.
This nature's treasure trove' has over 60% of its area covered with evergreen forests interspersed with rivers, streams, gorges and snow peaks. The mountainous tracts are a trekker's delight, and its rivers are just perfect for angling, boating and rafting. Arunachal Pradesh, a 'naturalists dream has an amazing assortment of exotic flora and fauna. It’s two National Parks, eight Wildlife Sanctuaries, one Orchid Sanctuary and one Biosphere Reserve have over 5000 plant species, about 85 terrestrial mammal species, over 500 types of birds and a large number of butterflies, insects and reptiles. The State is also known as an 'Orchid Paradise', as over 500 species of rare orchids can be seen here. Exotic orchids are considered to be gems' among flowers and are highly valued by florists
